The latest: Temperatures will start dropping today, bringing more seasonally appropriate weather this weekend.
The weekend highs are forecasted to be in the mid-50s, per the National Weather Service.
State of play: The first full week of January has, on average, been about 13 degrees above normal in North Texas.
Temperatures this week stayed in the 70s, reaching a high of 80 on Wednesday.
High temperatures in January typically hover around 56 degrees.
By the numbers: North Texas set new daily heat records several days around Christmas. The high on Dec. 28 was 85, beating the previous daily record of 83 set in 2016, per the weather service.
It reached 86 on Dec. 26, breaking a daily record of 83 set in 2008.
Dec. 23 broke a 1955 daily record with a high of 82.
What's next: There's a slight chance of rain this afternoon with gusty winds.
But rain is unlikely over the weekend into midweek.
