Plano's Uyghur Kitchen introduces Xinjiang cuisine to North Texas

A small, family-owned spot in Plano is serving 100-inch hand-pulled noodles, a tradition more than 1,000 years in the making.

The intrigue: Opened in 2023 by Abdulla Yunus, Turan Uyghur Kitchen became the first Uyghur restaurant in the Dallas area and helped introduce Xinjiang cuisine to North Texas.

The original location began in Houston under Abdulla's brother, and the family hopes to bring Uyghur food to every major city in Texas.

Zoom in: Uyghur cuisine reflects the region's crossroads. Its flavors draw from China, Mongolia and Russia, while its techniques and spices come from the Uyghur people's Turkic heritage.

The restaurant serves certified halal dishes and makes everything by hand, including their signature Uyghur Laghman, stretched nearly 100 inches before hitting the wok in a savory and spicy broth.

What to order: Silky, earthy laghman noodles with tender lamb; an impossibly thin and crispy lamb meat pie called Gosh Naan; and a smooth, not-too-sweet honey cake with spongy layers and a warm touch of molasses.
