Plano-based Pizza Hut may be heading toward a breakup with KFC.
Driving the news: Pizza Hut is struggling. Yum! Brands announced this week it's looking at options for the chain amid declining sales, including selling it to a new owner.
Yum! also owns KFC and Taco Bell.
State of pies: Pizza Hut, the world's second-largest pizza chain operator, has had eight quarters of declining same-store sales. About 17% of Pizza Hut locations have closed in the past decade, per the Dallas Business Journal.
Yum! will conduct a formal review of Pizza Hut's operations before deciding if the chain should be sold.
The review is "to help the brand realize its full value, which may be better executed outside of Yum! Brands," Yum! CEO Chris Turner said in a statement.
Zoom in: The company announced in February that the U.S. offices for KFC would move from Louisville, Kentucky, to Plano so employees can collaborate more across brands.
