America is in its facelift heyday, and the pursuit of youth hasn't spared our big, beautiful state.
The big picture: Tech advances, the influencer effect, the GLP-1-era and the medspa surge have collided to make cosmetic procedures more mainstream, even as they reinforce narrow ideals around body size and youth.
Between the frown lines: The American cultural aesthetic is moving toward "more undetectable plastic surgery," Bob Basu, president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, tells Axios.
Zoom in: The percentage of neurotoxin patients in Texas appears to be on the rise among Gen X, Millennials, Boomers and Gen Z.
- Gen X patients using neurotoxins increased by 40% between September 2024 and August 2025.
- The percentage increased by 37% for Millennial patients.
The intrigue: Some doctors have used Botox as a treatment for chronic migraines.
The big picture: More than 142,000 people nationwide aged 20 to 29 got injections like Botox last year, while more than 141,000 got hyaluronic acid fillers, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
- Younger patients are also bringing the cosmetic surgery industry a fresh round of potentially lifelong customers.
