The Fort Worth Zoo's youngest elephant's new name honors Lady Bird Johnson and her love of nature.
Driving the news: Just over 18,400 votes were cast for the calf's Texas-themed name. "Lady Bird" received 48% of the votes, the zoo says.
It's a good match for the mom's name, Bluebonnet.
The intrigue: To reveal the winner yesterday, the zoo shared a video of the 320-pound calf chomping on an ice cake with her new name written on it. You can also call her Birdie.
What they're saying: "Zookeepers describe her as spunky, confident and curious, often seen mimicking the adults' trunk movements as she learns from them," the zoo said in a news release.
What's next: The herd of Asian elephants can be observed at the zoo's Elephant Springs area.
