Texas leads U.S. in ICE detentions

More ICE detainees are being held in Texas than any other state, per data collected by the nonpartisan Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC).
Why it matters: Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has praised President Trump's mass deportation plan, feuded with Democrat-controlled cities over immigrants and deployed the Texas National Guard for protests against ICE.
The big picture: An estimated 58,800 immigrants were in long-term ICE detention centers nationwide as of Sept. 7. The majority had no criminal convictions, per TRAC.

Zoom in: Texas had around 13,300 detainees as of Sept. 2.
- Louisiana was second, with 7,470 ICE detainees.
What's next: "Texas fully supports ICE 💯" Abbott said on X Wednesday, after one detainee was fatally shot and two others were critically injured.
- He added that the state will not slow down on arrests, detentions and deportations.
