A collection of rare books by C.S. Lewis, Robert Frost, Agatha Christie and other well-known writers will be auctioned in Dallas today and tomorrow.
The intrigue: William A. Strutz, a lawyer from North Dakota, built an expansive private book collection over 60 years. He died last year.
His collection included one of three known first editions of "Frankenstein" in the original pink boards, a first-edition presentation copy of "The Hobbit," and an inscribed copy of the "The Great Gatsby."
The latest: The final auction includes books by Lewis and Ray Bradbury and a pencil manufactured by Henry David Thoreau's family.
Stunning stat: Two auctions of books in Strutz's collection last year raised more than $6.8 million, per Dallas-based Heritage Auctions.
