Dallas-Fort Worth has seen the fewest 100-degree days to this point in the year since 2007.
Driving the news: The average temperature of 85.5 last month in the Dallas area was slightly cooler than the typical average of 85.7.
The tolerable August weather was tempered by extremes, with 10 days when high temperatures were above normal and 11 days when high temperatures were below normal, per the National Weather Service.
The intrigue: So far, only six days have reached triple digits. The last time there were that few was in 2007 with five 100-degree days.
Yes, but: Nights don't bring as much relief from the heat as they did decades ago.
The average minimum temperature last month was 76.1, higher than the normal low of 75.7. That's despite the last month's average high being a full degree lower than typical.
We asked, you answered: At the beginning of summer, we asked Axios Dallas readers for their predictions for how many days will reach 100 degrees or higher.
The lowest guess was 21, over triple the number we've actually had. But even though they went over based on The Price is Right rules, Mehdi E. and Heather Z. still earned some swag.
The bottom line: The last mild summer in North Texas was in 2021, when the last 95-degree day was recorded on Sept. 20. The last day to reach 90 wasn't recorded until Oct. 10.
