Gov. Greg Abbott says Texas has more companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange than any other state. Video: Naheed Rajwani-Dharsi/Axios
Gov. Greg Abbott rang the closing bell to end Wednesday's trading on the New York Stock Exchange from the 50-yard line of AT&T Stadium — all to the cheers of America's Sweethearts.
Why it matters: The bell made a rare appearance outside New York City to ring in the new era of Y'all Street.
The NYSE moved its Chicago electronic exchange to Dallas this year. NYSE Texas joins the many financial industries and major corporations that have moved into business-friendly Texas.
State of play: The NYSE Texas has 49 founding members, many of which are North Texas-based companies, including AT&T, Cinemark Holdings, DR Horton, Globe Life Inc. and Sinclair Oil and Gas.
Inside the stadium: Before the governor arrived, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and AT&T CEO John Stankey told a crowd of executives that Texas is the right place to conduct business.
Then everyone filed onto the artificial turf in the center of the stadium, clapping and ringing cowbells before Abbott struck the closing bell.
The Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders smiled the whole time.
The bottom line: Nothing says big business in Texas like politicians, power brokers and pompoms.
