Ignore the electric facility across the street and the neon light in the window of the vape shop next door and step into a railcar bar for one of the most niche experiences in Dallas.
The latest: Boxcar is one of five bars on this year's Dallas Observer readers' choice poll.
It's a quick rise for a lounge open less than a year.
Vibe check: The space is tiny — less than 1,000 square feet — and windowless, but patrons hardly feel confined in the bar designed like a train car.
Screens act as windows for video of a world passing by. You quickly forget the busy street outside and the bustle of nearby bars popular among SMU students.
What to expect: Elevated bar eats, including a delectable wagyu pastrami French dip, and classic cocktails with rail-inspired names like Lover's Station and Caboose Juice.

What to order: Smoked Magic Potion, which was a Manhattan-like concoction made with strawberry-infused whiskey during our visit.
We also loved the Delmonico, an herbal tea infusion that softens tequila's burn.
