The KPMG Women's PGA Championship will be in Texas for the first time this week.
Why it matters: The golf industry — including courses, tournaments and tourist visits — generated $7.7 billion in Texas in 2023, per an economic analysis by a recreational organization lobbying group.
The latest: The tournament runs Thursday to Sunday at Fields Ranch East in Frisco.
The best women golfers in the world will participate, including the reigning champion, Amy Yang.
The purse is $10.4 million, including $1.56 million for the winner.
Zoom in: PGA of America moved from Florida to Frisco in 2022, triggering the development of two championship golf courses, practice areas and a 500-room Omni hotel.
The course will have spectator cooling zones and complimentary bottled water stations.
What's next: Fields Ranch East will also host the men's PGA Championship in 2027, which will be the first time since 1963 that the Dallas-Fort Worth area has hosted a men's major championship.
