Find The Cash Dallas stashes Benjamins near landmarks across the metro for savvy scavengers who get there first.
The Instagram account's following has more than doubled in just a few months to more than 256,000 followers.
The big picture: Similarly-branded accounts are popping up nationwide.
One in the Twin Cities launched a few weeks ago, but accounts in Austin, Boston and Nashville, Tennessee, have been around longer. There's no indication who's behind the generosity.
Zoom in: The Dallas account launched last August — about a month after Austin's — with a video of a hand placing $50 on a post under the pegasus outside the Omni Dallas.
Other prizes have been hidden near TCU, Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, the Fort Worth Water Gardens and in Bishop Arts District.
The intrigue: The people behind the account started hiding $100 bills in the spring with sponsorships from various business.
They hid $5,000 in April, pointing followers to hints from the Wolf of Law Street, a Euless-based personal injury law firm.
The law firm's account is private but says it's posting hints for Find The Cash Houston in its stories.
The bottom line: The accountowner, who hasn't been publicly identified, told the Dallas Observer in February that the hunt "brings a bit of that adventure kid spirit back into our busy, stressful adult lives."
