"King of the Hill" is returning this summer with a reboot on Hulu, and North Texans will feel a little extra nostalgia.
Why it matters: The show offered a dry, affectionate look at Texas suburban life, touching on themes like blue-collar work, family dynamics and neighborhood shenanigans.
The show's fictional town of Arlen has long been tied to North Texas suburbia.
Flashback: "King of the Hill" ended its original run in 2010 and has continued to inspire memes and fan edits.
The latest: The reboot's first poster dropped this week, teasing Hank, Dale, Bill and Boomhauer posted up in the alley and surrounded by signs of modern life.
Most of the original cast is back for the reboot.
Johnny Hardwick, the voice of fan favorite Dale, died in 2023 but TV Line reported he recorded lines for a few episodes of the revival before his death.
Zoom in: Co-creator Mike Judge lived in Richardson in the late 1980s and early 1990s, playing bass in a band and taking graduate classes at UT Dallas.
Judge got into animation while living in Richardson. He created short films from home after buying a 16 mm camera in 1989, per IMDb,
Judge went on to create "Beavis and Butt-Head," "Office Space" and "Idiocracy" but "King of the Hill" remains one of his most beloved projects.
What's next: Hulu hasn't announced a release date yet for the summer reboot.
