DART is testing a new 26-mile line that will connect DFW Airport and Plano, with several stops along the way.
Why it matters: Travelers from Collin and Denton counties don't currently have an easy way to get to DFW Airport using public transportation.
DART's Silver Line will connect seven cities and three counties.
Zoom in: The commuter rail's stops will include DFW Airport's Terminal B, Cypress Waters, downtown Carrollton, UT Dallas and Plano's Shiloh Station.
The rail will resemble Trinity Metro TexRail, with 235 seats, multidirectional seats and overhead storage. There will also be security cameras inside.
The latest: Starting this week, DART will test the rail between Carrollton and Richardson.
Test runs will take place 9am-4pm on weekdays.
Trains will stop at the Downtown Carrollton, Addison, Knoll Trail, and UTD stations, but passengers will not be allowed on board.
Yes, but: State legislators are considering a bill that would change the way DART is funded, a move the transit agency says would lead to a cut in services.
What's next: Construction for the line is expected to be completed this summer. DART will then test trains against the full route.
