Dallas-based film festival is back for 55th year

• The festival opened Wednesday night as part of Dallas Arts Month, which recognizes local artists.

Zoom in: The event continues through Sunday and includes feature films, documentaries and short films.

• Several actors and filmmakers are scheduled to attend showings of their movies. "Cobra Kai" actor Martin Kove will attend Saturday night's 50th anniversary screening of "Death Race 2000."
• Sunday's events include a showing of shorts from Sachse High School digital media students.

If you go: Most showings are free. Online ticket registration is closed for a few of the films, but limited tickets are still available at the box office an hour before showtime.

• Separately, the Angelika is also showing "Pride and Prejudice" and "Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith" for their 20th anniversaries.
