Ikea to open Dallas store this year

Zoom in: The two-story, 63,000-square-foot Dallas store will open this year at The Shops at Park Lane, the company announced Wednesday.

• A small Ikea is also scheduled to open in Rockwall this year.
• Ikea also has a plan-and-order location in Southlake, where customers can book an appointment with an Ikea planner to design and order home goods.

Flashback: Ikea first came to North Texas in 2005. The 310,000-square-foot store is at the now very busy intersection of Dallas North Tollway and Highway 121 in Frisco.

• Ikea opened another warehouse store in 2017 in Grand Prairie.

The intrigue: The Dallas store will have display products and some of the most popular items available to buy.

• Plus, there will be takeaway food options — a victory for Dallasites who don't want to drive to Frisco for Swedish meatballs.

The bottom line: Park Lane is already busy with NorthPark Center, Whole Foods and The Shops.

• Ikea will only add to the bustle.
