Love frozen margaritas but want to stay in your pajamas? You can order them to go thanks to a Texas law that came out of the pandemic.
The big picture: Texas bars and restaurantswere closed for much of 2020 as coronavirus cases spread across the state. They relied on to-go service to stay open.
Gov. Greg Abbott issued a waiver in March 2020 to allow restaurants to sell alcohol — even mixed cocktails — to go. The measure became state law in 2021.
State of sip: Many North Texas restaurants still offer cocktails to go. And liquor stores, like Total Wine and Spec's, have delivery services.
Some restaurants also offer large container drinks to go. For example, fans of Pie Tap's delicious frosé can order a gallon to take home.
The intrigue: There are also shops that just sell drinks to go.
We recently visited Mr. Margarita's on Greenville Avenue to check out the options. The store also sells jell-o shots and edibles.
What we ordered: An $8, 12-ounce hurricane.
Six-word review: Cool perk. Bar drinks are better.
