One of Dallas' most respected journalists is returning to news.
The latest: Robert Wilonsky is returning to the Dallas Morning News next month as a full-time columnist. He left the News in 2020 to work at Dallas-based Heritage Auctions.
Why it matters: Wilonsky's writing helps Dallas residents make sense of the city.
Catch up quick: Even if you haven't read any of Wilonsky's work, you've probably heard his voice. He co-hosts "Intentional Grounding" during football season on The Ticket, and he hosts an annual "Christmas Spectacular" every Dec. 24.
Wilonsky is Dallas born and raised. He started his career at the Dallas Times Herald, at a time when the city had two newspapers.
He then worked at the Dallas Observer, which he left in 2012 to join the News.
What they're saying: Wilonsky tells Axios he's excited to return to the newspaper, which he points out is one of the few news organizations still locally owned.
"There's a moment when everybody asks what you can do to make a difference," Wilonsky says. "I know that I can't fix everything, but I can get back to telling people what they need to know about this city, why it works, why it doesn't."
