Plano's Deerfield neighborhood is back at it with over-the-top holiday displays worth queuing for.
Why it matters: Dozens of homeowners participate every year. They come up with elaborate themes, from the show "Peanuts" to a Dallas sports fan's holiday wish list that includes another Super Bowl win for the Cowboys.
And, there's no cost to see the lights.
Flashback: The neighborhood tradition began decades ago, when homes in the area were still under construction.
To entice more people to drive north to see the new houses, the builders offered homeowners cash prizes for their holiday decor.
The intrigue: One of the streets has synchronized lights across several houses.
How it works: The lights are usually on 7-10pm on weekdays and 7-11pm on weekends. Several roads lead to the neighborhood between Preston and Coit roads.
Pro tips: The lines are usually longer closer to Christmas and on weekends. You may have better luck on a weeknight.Â
You can also park and walk around, but be sure to follow the signs prohibiting parking on certain streets.
