One pie shop to go: Buttermilk Sky

Pies are worthy of love and praise all year long, not just around Thanksgiving.

State of pies: Amy Doyle, a retired Arlington police officer, tells Axios she had never baked a pie before opening her Flower Mound shop. 

• She decided to look into becoming a franchisee after trying a key lime pie from Buttermilk Sky in Colleyville.

Context: Buttermilk Sky specializes in the perfect pastry, including refrigerated and hot pies. 

• The shop has more than 10 flavors, including a seasonal pumpkin variety.

What she's saying: Since opening four years ago, Doyle's pie shop has made pies for everything from big events to just because. 

• "Sometimes we've had people say they were having a really bad day, so they stop by to grab a pie," she tells Axios.

What to order: Key lime pie. Order the one with a shortbread crust.
