Dallas residents who can't afford to buy pads or tampons can get a one-month supply for free at the city's libraries and recreation centers.
Why it matters: Nearly 25% of U.S. teens and 33% of adults struggled to pay for period products last year, per the United Nations.
Zoom in: The city of Dallas piloted Period Access Dallas in 2022. The program has expanded to dozens of Dallas facilities, including 28 libraries, two community centers and nearly 40 park and recreation facilities.
The Kiest Recreation Center in downtown Oak Cliff is the latest place where residents can get the free supplies, per the DMN.
How it works: The designated Period Access Dallas locations have cards in the restrooms for residents to fill out. Hand the form to a staff member to receive a bag of the products.
Zoom out: Dallas Love Field and many public schools also have free tampons and pads in their bathrooms.
