Texas leads most countries in Olympic medals

The latest: Southlake's Sam Watson won the bronze medal in men's speed climbing Thursday despite setting a world record.

• Watson fell behind in the semifinals, costing him the gold, but set a 4.74-second world record during the bronze medal race, per NPR.

State of play: So far, athletes with ties to Texas have won at least 35 medals, per an NBC count.

• And current and former Longhorns continue to dominate at the Olympics. The University of Texas has had a gold medalist in the last 11 summer games, per Yahoo.

Zoom in: Former Longhorn Tara Davis-Woodhall won gold and Grand Prairie's Jasmine Moore won bronze during Thursday's women's long jump final.

• Dallas' Sha'Carri Richardson led Team USA to first place in the women's 4x100-meter relay qualifier Thursday. She and her teammates race in the final Friday.
