A North Texas high schooler has won a $15,000 prize for his creation of a charro-style suit using 12 rolls of duct tape.
State of play: Isaac Cervantes, of Pilot Point, won the "Stuck at Prom" contest.
In his submission video, Cervantes said he spent about 123 hours assembling the suit, a belt and the sombrero. He also designed a monarch butterfly insert for the back of his jacket.
The monarch joins the Mexican and U.S. flags to represent the two cultures that have defined the teen, Cervantes said in his contest submission.
What they're saying: "We thought about how a monarch butterfly travels between countries to begin their families. This would be a perfect representation of the journey my parents went through," Cervantes told an Austin TV station.
