Florencia Velasco Fortner wants to see more philanthropic dollars go toward Latino organizations, like The Concilio, the 40-year-old nonprofit organization she leads.

  • "I want The Concilio to be a force for not just Hispanic families but for other Hispanic organizations," the CEO told Axios.
  • About 40% of the Dallas County population identifies as Hispanic or Latino, according to the latest U.S. Census.

As part of our regular Screen Time feature, we will examine how some of the most interesting people in North Texas interact with technology.

Here's how the Velasco Fortner clicks...

  • Device of choice: iPhone
  • First tap of the day: "Check my texts."
  • Go-to news sources: "Daily I read The Dallas Morning News, and on Sundays I read The New York Times. I am old school as I actually like the good, old-fashioned newspaper."
  • On rotation: "In Spanish, I listen to Salsa, Mariachi and Latin Pop. In English, my taste is also quite eclectic. My playlist has hip hop (J. Cole, Ludacris, Tupac, etc), pop music and classic rock. Most of the songs you will find in my playlist are classic rock like CCR, the Doors, Queen and Joe Walsh. Love, love music!"
  • Podcast of choice: NPR's "Up First"
  • Most used app: "I hate to admit my most used app is Fitbit. I am obsessed with tracking my sleep, my steps, exercise, etc."
  • Reading list: "I am finishing up 'Team of Rivals' by Doris Kearns Goodwin. Next on my list is 'The Brothers Karamazov' by Fyodor Dostoevsky."
