It's bad form to show up to a holiday party empty-handed. Let's get a little more bold this year.
Why it matters: Skip the line, save some money and impress your friends with locally inspired items that will make you the star of the function.
What to try: You might be surprised by how many Columbus chefs have willingly shared recipes for some very recognizable dishes over the years:
🥞 Breakfast
- Fox in the Snow has become a fixture of our dining scene, and it's very forthcoming with recipes — like these buttermilk biscuits with salted honey butter.
- For something more substantial, try your hand at recreating The Guild House's smoked chicken hash for a savory brunch.
🥗 Sides and Apps
- Pop over to Asia for some inspiration and reproduce Joya's incredible fried rice.
- Save time with these simple side dishes from various Cameron Mitchell menus.
- Skip the standard mashed potatoes and elevate your starch game with Hyde Park's gruyere au gratin potatoes.
🍽️ Mains
- Barcelona's paella recipe is a nice substitute for traditional turkey or ham.
- For an elegant vegetarian option, recreate Ocean Club's goat cheese ravioli.
- You can't mimic Lindey's patio, but you can steal the recipe for shrimp angel.
🍰 Desserts
- You knew it would be here. Jeni's ice cream base is pretty legendary, and you can turn it into whatever flavor you want.
- Class up the end of the meal with your version of Refectory's warm apple tarte with rosemary.
💭 Andrew's thought bubble: The maple budino from Chapman's Eat Market is one of the best desserts I've ever had — and you can make it!
