Beltline breaks ground on trail segment near Bobby Jones golf course

What they're saying: Beltline President and CEO Clyde Higgs said the Northwest Trail will connect people to jobs, stores, Piedmont Hospital and medical offices like the Shepherd Center.

State of play: The groundbreaking comes more than a month after the Beltline began work on the new 1-mile path connecting Loring Heights, Brookwood and Ardmore to part of the trail network that runs through Tanyard Creek Park.

Flashback: Unlike the Northwest Trail, most of the Beltline runs along old rail paths.

• The Beltline in 2022 began working with the PATH Foundation, residents and neighborhood organizations to come up with a route that would be agreed upon by (almost) everyone.

What's next: Section 2A will wrap up in early 2028. Section B, which will cross over Peachtree Road, will require a bridge and coordination with the Georgia Department of Transportation.

• Segment C will run from Peachtree Road to Peachtree Park Apartments and construction on that part will begin early next year.
