Metro Atlanta movie fans hoping to experience "The Odyssey" exactly as director Christopher Nolan intended might have to embark on a voyage of their own.
Why it matters: The Mall of Georgia Buford IMAX is one of only 26 theaters in the U.S. that can project the movie in IMAX 70mm, the giant-format film technology.
State of play: The theater roughly 45 minutes northeast of Atlanta has five screenings during the week and six on the weekend. Those include 3am and 7:15am screenings to meet demand — and which are also booked.
- If you're in the mood for a road trip, the IMAX at the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga is also screening the film.
Zoom out: Hollywood cinephiles have several nearby options. Five IMAX 70mm screens are in the Los Angeles area, and three more are in northern California.
Yes, but: Fans in major cities like Kansas City and New Orleans face drives of about 500 miles to reach their nearest IMAX 70mm theater.
Zoom out: South of Providence, Rhode Island, New York City and Philadelphia, the I-95 corridor offers none of these theaters until you hit Fort Lauderdale (unless you count a westward trek to Buford).
