Sandy Springs finally gets its own default ZIP codes

• They also won't have to explain to a person unfamiliar with the area why their address says Atlanta if they use GPS to navigate to their home.

The latest: Sandy Springs will be the default city for ZIP codes 30319, 30327, 30328, 30338, 30339, 30342, and 30350.

Caveat: ZIP code 30092, which covers the northeastern tip of Sandy Springs as well as Peachtree Corners and Norcross, will not be included.

• City spokesperson Carter Long told Axios changes to that ZIP code would cause confusion due to the area having similar street names to areas in 30338.

What they're saying: Mayor Rusty Paul said the change is an "important step to strengthen economic development, enhance public safety, ensure proper sales tax allocation, and reinforce our community identity."

• "This is a major win for our residents and businesses who proudly call Sandy Springs home," he said in a statement.

Do I have to change my address? Nope. People still wedded to the Atlanta designation can still list it as their city, and their mail will still be delivered to them.

Do I still live in Sandy Springs? Yes! This does not affect city boundaries.

What's next: Sandy Springs said USPS will update its Address Management System to reflect the change, which could take weeks to complete.
