I screamed through Netherworld's new attractions – and loved every minute

Driving the news: Last Friday evening, my colleague Kristal Dixon and I visited this year's signature haunts at Stone Mountain.

• Netherworld is open to visitors on certain dates this month and in November. As a first-timer, here are some tips I want to share:

You will sweat: The two featured attractions — Monsters Attack! and Oblivion: Return of the Mangler — are long, packed and hot. Dress light and bring a fan.

Pace yourself: Move through in a steady line, as staff instructs. Take your time, but don't freeze in a corner like I did, causing an actor to break character to hurry me along (sorry).

Prepare for jump scares: Nothing gets my adrenaline pumping quite like a sentient skeleton jumping out of the shadows — or from the ceiling.

• Rest assured, the actors are meant to scare, not harm.

Have fun: It's OK to react — trust me, I expressed every human emotion — but keep your hands to yourself and keep your phones tucked away (no photos are allowed inside).

The bottom line: I've done haunted houses before — but Netherworld delivers a level of detail and chaos that left me breathless, sweaty and spooked.
