Many Georgians who move out of state stay near home — but others wind up about as far away as they can get, per new census data.
Why it matters: While moving overall is at an all-time low, there's been an uptick in state-to-state migration, as Axios' Erica Pandey reports.

Zoom in: East Alabama and the southwestern border of South Carolina attracted the most (former) Peach State residents.
How it works: The map above is based on new state-to-county migration estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey.
The bottom line: Most Americans stay close to home — but plenty are still making big moves, whether for a job, an education or family reasons.
