Stand-up comedian and "human golden retriever" Katherine Blanford has taken her tales of growing up Southern to the "Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" and stages across the country.
- Blanford, who hosts the "Cheaties" podcast with Atlanta comedian Lace Larrabee, opens for David Spade's "Catch Me Inside" tour tonight at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
Here's how she'd spend her best day ever in Atlanta.
Morning: After waking up at 9am, Blanford, who now splits her time between Atlanta and Los Angeles, heads to East Palisades with her dog for a trail hike and visit to Dog Beach.
- "If you enjoy dogs, it's heaven on Earth. You got hot dogs, huskies, dogs that like to plop down in the water and not move [that's my kind of dawg]. It's dog heaven."
- "You get a little woodsy, a little beachy."
Brunch: Blanford and friends head to Sweet Auburn BBQ for breakfast.
Lunch: She hops on the Beltline Eastside Trail and walks toward Krog Street Market for Jeni's Ice Cream, followed by Ladybird Grove and Mess Hall for "something with tequila. A little spicy something."
Reality check: "This is my best day ever. On this day, I'm going to die the next day. This is no holding back."
- "This is the last day ever. There's no time for health or savoring relationships."
Afternoon: After lunch, Blanford goes to the Northcrest Golf Driving Range near the Spaghetti Junction.
- "I'm not even good at golf. There are people up there in golf gear, wedding gowns. You're whacking balls next to someone who's taking a nap. That's fine! There are no rules there."
After that, she heads to Revery VR Bar for another drink — "I'm not a gamer, at all. I sometimes like an excuse to have something to do with my hands and to not have small talk while I drink." — and then wings at The Local for an appetizer.
Dinner: Amore e Amore, formerly Il Localino. "The family that owns it, every time you walk in it's like you're their long-lost granddaughter who they haven't seen in 60 years. They built the restaurant because they knew one day you will come to it."
- "No matter what day of the year it is, it's your birthday in there."
Post-dinner: "We top that off with a show at The Tabernacle or The EARL.
- Or, a trip to a Midtown high-rise with a glass infinity hot tub that overlooks the Downtown Connector. "I'd sneak in and do that."
