Axios Atlanta spent the weekend at OutlantaCon, the annual sci-fi and gaming convention for LGBTQ+ folks, and it was quite the experience.

Why it matters: Atlanta's conventions accept queer folks, but OutlantaCon is one of the premier venues because the panels and events celebrate the LGBTQ+ community.

The event, which started in 2009, includes panel discussions, parties, games, and, of course, costumes.

What they're saying: "If Dragon Con is the booming metropolis of pop culture conventions, with 70,000 or so attendees swarming all over downtown Atlanta every Labor Day weekend, Outlantacon is more like a nightclub with a niche clientele," the AJC writes.
