Wawa's first Georgia store planned for Pooler

Georgia's first Wawa is officially happening — and more could be on the way.

Why it matters: Wawa is one of those once-regional convenience store chains — much like Buc-ee's and Sheetz — known for a feverish following and famous hoagies.

Driving the news: City leaders in Pooler (about four hours from Atlanta) OK'd a site plan for the convenience store and gas station at Tuesday's city council meeting, WJCL-TV reports.

WJCL-TV also reported that Wawa wants to build stores in Jesup, Brunswick, and Hinesville.

Zoom out: Wawa plans to add as many as 280 new stores over the next decade in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, North Carolina and Tennessee, Bloomberg recently reported.

CEO Chris Gheysens described this plan as "the most aggressive growth" in the chain's history, per Bloomberg.

What we're watching: Whether Wawa's plans include a presence in metro Atlanta.
