Most stores and restaurants go dark on Christmas Day, leaving only a slim lineup for essentials, meals and caffeine fixes.
Why it matters: Last-minute shoppers and those looking to dine out will have few options for forgotten Christmas cookie ingredients, medication or a place to eat — and hours can vary widely by location.
- Stores, including grocery stores, and restaurants have reduced hours for Christmas Eve.
State of play: CVS and Walgreens will be open Thursday with limited hours, while many convenience store chains including 7-Eleven, Sheetz and Wawa will stay open regular hours.
- Denny's, Starbucks and Dunkin' are among the restaurants that have locations open on the holiday.
Between the lines: Local Chinese restaurants are typically open on Christmas, one of their busiest days of the year.

Dig in: The following national restaurant chains have select locations open Thursday, though many will be closed or operate with limited menus:

- Huddle House: Hours vary, but many open from 6am until 10pm.

- Red Lobster: Special holiday hours from noon to 9pm on Thursday, according to this list.
- Waffle House
Between the lines: You can also find restaurants accepting Christmas reservations through OpenTable.
- Locally owned and regional chains will also be open on Christmas, as will some restaurants located in hotels and rest stops.
Fast food open Christmas 2025
Opening on Christmas is often a franchise decision, so expect many locations to be closed on Thursday. Hours for open locations will vary, and most will close early on Christmas Eve.
