Chipotle is rolling out its first-ever High Protein Menu — and it's tying the launch to the rise of GLP-1 weight-loss drugs and a broader focus on macronutrients.
Why it matters: The fast-casual chain is stepping into territory most major restaurant brands have avoided — directly acknowledging how GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic and Zepbound are reshaping how Americans eat, signaling the messaging is going mainstream.
- Smoothie King has been one of the only restaurant brands to do this so far, offering a "GLP-1 Support" menu focused on high protein, fiber and zero added sugar.
Chipotle High Protein Menu
Driving the news: The new menu debuts Dec. 23 in the U.S. and Canada and spans bowls, tacos and Chipotle's first-ever snack — a High Protein Cup, a 4-ounce serving of chicken or steak.
- Items range from 15 to 81 grams of protein and the company's news release calls out two entrees as "GLP-1 friendly," the High Protein–High Fiber Bowl and High Protein–Low Calorie Salad.
- Prices start at $3.50 for a single chicken taco at select restaurants, and Chipotle said the national weighted average price of a High Protein Cup of Adobo Chicken is $3.82.
What they're saying: Chipotle cites IFIC data showing high-protein diets have been the top U.S. eating pattern for three years, with 70% of Americans prioritizing protein.
- The chain says the curated menu is meant to make hitting protein goals easier.
Between the lines: Other brands are promoting high protein meals and drinks. Starbucks added protein lattes and protein cold foam to its menu in late September.
- Panda Express added its Balanced Protein Plates in January, which includes a Double Protein Plate that boasts 76 grams of protein.
What's next: Expect more chains to add GLP-1 friendly meals and high-protein options in 2026.
- Chipotle says it will feature high-protein creator meals in its app starting Jan. 5 — including builds from Josh Hart, Smaller Sam and Nutrition by Kylie.
