Hillsborough County has already begun sending vote-by-mail ballots for the midterm election.
- Here's a look at key races on the ballot. Early voting runs from Oct. 19 to Nov. 1.
County Commission, District 1: Incumbent Commissioner Harry Cohen (D) will face Republican Jackie Toledo, a former state representative, in his bid to retain the seat.
- Cohen, who previously served on the Tampa City Council, has championed ordinances that address pain points for residents, including a crackdown on short-term rentals.
- Toledo lists traffic congestion among the problems she aims to address if elected. She also wants to further invest in the district's infrastructure, which she says has so far lagged growth.
County Commission, District 3: Incumbent Commissioner Gwen Myers (D) faces Republican Luiz F. F. Garcia for her seat, which includes East Tampa and Ybor City.
- Myers' accomplishments on the County Commission include expanding eligibility for the county's health care plan and recognizing Juneteenth as a county holiday.
- Garcia, a small business owner, lists revitalizing Ybor City and creating new economic opportunities there among his priorities, as well as "cutting red tape" for local entrepreneurs.
County Commission, District 5: Republican Stacy Hahn, a member of the Hillsborough County School Board, primaried Commissioner Donna Cameron Cepeda in August to face Democrat Neil Manimala.
- Hahn has said that if elected to the County Commission she would "eliminate waste" in the budget, support law enforcement and improve transportation infrastructure.
- Manimala, a board-certified urologist and University of South Florida graduate, lists investing in transportation, particularly road repairs, among his priorities.
County Commission, District 7: Incumbent Commissioner Joshua Wostal (R) faces Democrat Aileen Rodriguez, a public affairs executive, in his bid to retain his countywide seat.
- Rodriguez has said she wants to explore ways the county can help lower the cost of living for residents, with an eye on affordable housing.
- Wostal has endeavored to end what he deems "wasteful spending" throughout his time on the County Commission, helping divert funds from affordable housing toward transportation.
School Board Member District 6: Incumbent Karen Perez, who has served on the board for more than seven years, will compete against Kenneth Gay, a retired educator and administrator.
School Board Member District 2: Voters in this district will choose between educator Daniela Simic and Brittany Lyssy, the former president of Tampa Bay Young Republicans.
Senate District 14: Democrat Brian Nathan won his first bout with former GOP state Rep. Josie Tomkow by only 405 votes. To keep the seat, which spans South Tampa and Lutz, he'll have to do it again.
- Nathan is leaning on his background as a union leader to position himself as a proven champion of working families. Among his priorities are affordable housing and accessible healthcare.
- Tomkow is campaigning on her record of supporting tax cuts, law enforcement and insurance reforms in the state House. She has eclipsed Nathan in fundraising, with nearly $2 million on hand.
House District 67: Tampa City Council member Luis Viera (D) faces retired U.S. Army officer Lisette Bonano (R) for the state House seat formerly held by Fentrice Driskell.
Representative in Congress, District 12: Kimberly Overman clinched the Democratic nomination in August to face incumbent U.S. Rep. Gus M. Bilirakis (R) for this redrawn congressional district.
- Overman previously served on the Hillsborough County Commission and lists lowering prescription drug costs and defending reproductive rights among her priorities.
- Bilirakis is campaigning on lowering the cost of living, securing the border and supporting President Trump's agenda.
Representative in Congress, District 14: Republicans chose former state Rep. Mike Beltran to challenge U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor for this redrawn congressional district.
- Castor's campaigning on the federal dollars she secured for Tampa International Airport and Port Tampa Bay, and her commitment to keeping healthcare and energy affordable.
- Beltran is leaning on his record in the Legislature, particularly his votes for tax cuts. He, too, lists increased access to health care among his priorities if elected to Congress.
Also on the ballot are local referenda to elect Hillsborough County's superintendent and to expand the county commission, as well as a half-cent sales tax to support school maintenance.
Zoom out: Voters will also choose Florida's next governor, agriculture commissioner, chief financial officer, attorney general and U.S. senator.
- They'll also decide the fate of a constitutional amendment that, if passed, would overhaul the state's property tax system.
