Hurricane center monitors two Atlantic systems

Driving the news: The system with the greatest potential to affect Florida is a tropical wave off the coast of Africa, and the National Hurricane Center says it may develop into a depression as it moves west across the Atlantic.

• As of Tuesday afternoon, there was a 70% chance of the system developing into a tropical depression or storm within the next two to seven days.
• NWS Tampa Bay meteorologist Rick Davis told Axios that conditions may become less favorable for development as the system moves closer to the Caribbean.

Zoom out: The other system, which Davis said poses no threat to Florida, is several hundred miles northeast of Bermuda and could become a short-lived tropical depression or storm.

• But its window to do so is closing fast as conditions become less favorable for storm development.

Between the lines: The Atlantic hurricane season began June 1 and ends Nov. 30.

• The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration forecasts below-normal activity, with seven to 13 named storms, including two to six that could become hurricanes.
