The Florida Strawberry Festival kicks off its 11-day run Thursday in Plant City, the "Winter Strawberry Capital of the World."
The big picture: The nearly century-old festival is the most-attended fair in the state and ranks among the top 50 in the nation, drawing more than 650,000 visitors last year.
Here's what to expect:
ποΈ Tickets: $15 for those 13 and older and $5 for ages 6-12; kids 5 and under get in free.
- Pro tip: Save money by buying tickets at Publix, where they're $10 for ages 13 and up and $4 for ages 6-12. Discounts are also available on select days.
π Parking: Guests may use any of the 11 lots around the festival grounds. The fee is $10 for vehicles under 20 feet, payable in cash only.
- If you plan to enter through a specific gate, this parking map will help you find the most convenient lot.
π Food: There are plenty of new foods to try; here's what caught our eye.
- Dubai strawberry chocolate cups: A mountain of strawberries doused in rich chocolate and pistachios. Find it at Super Crunch.
- Strawberry crunch nachos: A plate of waffle cone chips with cheesecake dip and, of course, fresh strawberries, topped with a sweet glaze drizzle. Find it at Sweet Missions.
- Strawberry BBQ egg roll: Why pick between the tang of barbecue and the tartness of strawberries? They're rolled together inside this egg roll at Double T Enterprises. Antacids sold separately.
Find classic strawberry shortcake at three spots:Β The St. Clements Shortcake Booth, Transforming Life Church Shortcake, and the East Historical Society Shortcake Booth.
ποΈ Entertainment: Dozens of artists are set to perform.
- Gate admission isn't included with concert tickets. If you want to see these acts, don't procrastinate. Tickets for Forrest Frank have sold out.
