The penthouse of the upcoming 50-story Waldorf Astoria Residences St. Petersburg sold for a record $27 million, developers announced Tuesday.
Why it matters: It's the highest-priced condo sale in Tampa Bay history, signaling more growth of the region's luxury housing market.
- Along with the record transaction, the Waldorf Astoria Residences planned for 150 Second Ave. S. is set to replace The Residences at 400 Central as the tallest building in St. Pete.
State of play: The two-story penthouse spans 10,700 square feet and includes a 50-foot private pool, a private foyer and high-end finishes.
- The buyer is "a local business leader and longtime supporter of St. Petersburg," per a news release.

Flashback: The previous condo sale record was in 2021, when the penthouse at the Ritz-Carlton Residences sold for $11.6 million, per the Tampa Bay Times.
The big picture: Plans for the Waldorf Astoria call for 163 two- and three-bedroom residences, ranging from about 2,000-3,400 square feet.
- The tower will also feature 73,000 square feet of office space and about 10,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space.
What they're saying: The sale "speaks to the extraordinary flight to quality we're seeing in the area as it evolves into a world-class waterfront destination," Kevin Maloney, founder and CEO of developer PMG, said in a statement.
- "There's a real energy in St. Petersburg right now, with a growing demand for elevated, design-driven living in energetic urban settings, and this project reflects that momentum."
