No showers, no toilets: St. Petersburg shuts down sewage plants due to Milton

The City of St. Petersburg plans to shut down two of its three sewer treatment plants as Hurricane Milton barrels toward Florida's west coast.

Why it matters: Most city residents will soon be unable to shower, flush toilets and wash clothes or dishes.

Zoom in: The city will power off the Northeast and Southwest waste facilities at 7pm to protect its employees from potential storm surge.

Residents are encouraged to fill up water bottles in advance. Restoration of these services could take up to two days or more after Milton passes.
