Among the slew of signs seen at the Sarasota rally on Saturday headlined by former President Trump was the following, which caught our eye: "Make America Florida."
State of play: Turns out, that's the name of a new political action committee, per Florida Politics. The PAC was registered with the Federal Elections Commission on April 2.
- We couldn't find much about Melissa Peters, the woman listed in FEC documents as the PAC's treasurer, but the P.O. Box she used to register the committee is the same one used in the past by Evan Power, an FSU alum and chairman of the Republican Party of Florida.
"Florida has become a model for the nation for conservative politics," Power told Axios.
- He told us he noticed the momentum behind the slogan online and wanted to capitalize on the Sunshine State's popularity in conservative circles to raise money for national Republican candidates.
