We asked Axios San Antonio newsletter readers for their emotions about the election. It's safe to say they have some big feelings.
Driving the news: Early voting started Monday and runs through Oct. 30. Election Day is Nov. 3.
- Read our Bexar County voter guide.
What you're saying: The overwhelming majority of the more than 300 respondents in our four Axios Texas cities — San Antonio, Austin, Houston and Dallas — identified as Democrats. Here's how San Antonio-area Democrats feel:
- "I'm cautiously optimistic about the height of the predicted blue wave," says Tom B.
- "Nervous — hoping that people go out [and] vote," Maria C. says. "Things have to change."
- "Anxious. We need some major changes right now, and even though polls show that Hinojosa & Talarico are poised to win, we've been very surprised before," Vida R. says. "I will keep my fingers crossed that the middle class will actually be taken into consideration this next term."
- "I'm excited to exercise my right to vote and stand up for the issues that matter most to me," Joseph C. says.
- "I'm feeling nervous but ultimately hopeful," Laryssa C. says. "This election feels energizing in a different way than it has previously and I'm hoping that means positive change is in the forefront."
The other side: Republican Tom N. of San Antonio says he's "excited."
- But another local Republican respondent says they feel "unmotivated."
- Plus, Jeremy G. in Buda says the Republican party has been in power for a long time. "It's time to head towards the center and start really representing the people," he says.
The bottom line: Steve A. is "relieved that the constant barrage of political misinformation and lies is almost over for another couple of years. Fewer spam phone calls and emails [from] polling firms and solicitations for money from candidates."
- I think we can safely say Steve speaks for all of us.
