Anacacho Coffee and Cantina is now open downtown

Coffee options have been growing in downtown San Antonio, most recently at a swanky hotel bar.

Dig in: Anacacho Coffee and Cantina opened Friday at The St. Anthony Hotel. It's helmed by chef Leo Davila, a James Beard semifinalist known for the Asian-Mexican fusion restaurant Stixs and Stone, which he closed in March to open Anacacho.

Catch up quick: The coffee bar serves the local Pulp Coffee Roasters, which I discovered (and immediately loved) earlier this year at the San Antonio Coffee Festival.

What to try: The ube latte ($6.50). It's creamy, earthy and has an aftertaste of sweetness.

For the uninitiated, ube is a purple yam from the Philippines that has a nutty flavor.

The vibe: The space, which offers cocktails later in the day, leans into a West Texas atmosphere with its cowboy murals, leather seating and taxidermy. It's all designed by local HGTV star Kim Wolfe.

The bottom line: Anacacho offers an inviting start to the morning.
