Richmond's new VITCO bar plans a streetcar stage

There's a new outdoor bar and restaurant in town: the Virginia Transit Company, or VITCO, for those in the know.
Why it matters: It's the second Richmond bar constructed out of shipping containers, and soon it'll have a streetcar stage.
State of play: VITCO opened in late June near the Diamond District at 1010 N. Meadow St.
- It's the sister bar of — and from the team behind — D.C.'s Metrobar, a similar concept that our colleagues up there tell us is in fact very hip and fun.
- The centerpiece of Metrobar is an old Metro car guests can dine in. For Richmond, the birthplace of the electric streetcar, VITCO is repurposing an old streetcar to use as a stage and DJ booth, the team tells Axios.
- The streetcar stage is in the works, but locals can now enjoy an outdoor bar, a 12-foot LED screen wall, ample seating, and in-house Southern California-style Mexican restaurant El Camino.
On the menu: Burritos and quesabirria ($16), birria fries ($14), nachos and quesadillas ($11), tacos ($4), and vegan wings ($12).
- Plus a full bar.
The intrigue: VITCO's prices include tax, so what you see is what you pay (not including tip).
What's next: The restaurant is still a work in progress. In the coming months, VITCO will add more bars, covered cabanas, weather-protected areas and an outdoor stage, anchored by the streetcar.
If you go: VITCO is open weekdays 5pm-midnight (except Tuesdays, when it's closed), Saturdays noon-2am, and Sundays noon-midnight.
