Brace yourselves, Richmond, Friday's forecast calls for an inch or two of snow.
Why it matters: It's time to report to your closest grocery store and pillage the shelves for bread and milk, even if you don't consume bread or milk.
State of play: A weather system coming up from the south is likely to bring "a period of light snow" to Richmond starting Friday morning, WWBT reports.
- Flurries should start right around the morning commute.
- They could change over to more of a wintery mix by noon, or not. It could snow all day (unlikely, but it could).
- Overall, Richmond's chance of light snow on Friday morning is "likely," says WWBT.
What they're saying: "At this point we think an inch or two of snow is possible," says the Channel 12 weather team.
- Expect it to accumulate mostly on the grass, cars or porch, though, not the street.
Meanwhile, if you're hoping it'll warm up anytime soon, you're likely out of luck.
- December in Richmond is shaping up to be nearly five degrees colder than usual, reports the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang.
If that's the case, our December 2025 might feel closer to what it felt like in the 1970s.
- That's because Richmond's average winter temperature is now about 4.2°F warmer than it was in 1970, according to a new report from Climate Central, a climate research group.
The bottom line: It's cold outside. But at least we're going to get some (light) snow out of it.
