And the award for Virginia's most uniquely popular Thanksgiving pie goes to … chocolate pie?
The big picture: New Instacart data shared with Axios, based on last year's orders, found that the chocolatey-pudding-filled pastry has a fanbase in the Commonwealth.
Only one other state also ordered chocolate pie more than the national average: Wyoming.
Fun fact: This dessert is rooted in Southern tradition, with one of the most popular types being the Mississippi mud pie.
Legend has it that someone in the 1920s coined the mud pie term after finding a melted chocolate pie and thinking it looked like "the muddy banks of the Mississippi River," according to Food Republic.
Meanwhile, pumpkin pie is big out West, strawberry rhubarb and French silk are favorites in the Midwest, and cream pies are a hit in New England, reports Axios' Alex Fitzpatrick.
