Chesterfield School Board opens applications to replace Dot Heffron

Driving the news: In a Wednesday statement, the school board launched a 10-day application period that ends on Oct. 10 at 5pm.

• County residents will be able to address the board about the appointment at an Oct. 14 meeting, the board says.
• The new board member will fill the seat after Heffron officially steps down Dec. 31, until a special election is held next year. It's unclear when that person will be chosen.

Between the lines: Following calls to remove Heffron immediately, the board reiterated this week that state law prevents elected officials from being forced out without a court-led petition.

Zoom in: The eligibility criteria for the position includes living in the Clover Hill District, being a voter and not holding another elected office.
