The end is nigh for the Richmond Flying Squirrels' time at The Diamond.
Why it matters: Tickets are going fast for the Squirrels' final six games next week at Richmond's baseball home of 40 years.
State of play: The Squirrels' "Diamonds Aren't Forever: The Farewell Series" kicks off Tuesday, Sept. 9 and runs nightly through Sunday.
- The team is going big on nostalgia, fans and (in typical Squirrels style) fun for its home stretch games, all of which are played against the Hartford Yard Goats.
- Tickets are on sale, starting at $13. Sunday's finale is sold out.
Zoom in: The themes and giveaways for the final games are:
- Sept. 9: Time Capsule night. Fans can submit proposals for CarMax Park time capsule items. The first 1,500 fans get a "Farewell Series" T-shirt.
- Sept. 10: RVA Night with $7 drink specials. Dogs get in free. The first 1,500 fans get a commemorative program copy of "The Diamond: A Fond Farewell."
- Sept. 11: First Responders Night, with fireworks and free tix for first responders. The first 2,000 fans get a Farewell Series lapel pin.
- Sept. 12: Hispanic Heritage Month night, with allegedly the largest fireworks show in team history and $3 drink specials. The team becomes Las Ardillas Voladoras and the first 2,000 fans get an All-Diamond Team poster.
- Sept. 13: Childhood Cancer Awareness Night, with fireworks and giveaways from the Squirrels' archive. Some 1989 Richmond Braves' Governors Cup championship players will also be there.
- Sept. 14: #1 Fan Bobblehead giveaway for the first 2,000 fans, plus attendees can play catch on the field and take home Diamond dirt.
Be smart: The Diamond was built in 1985 and home to the Richmond Braves until the Squirrels took over as RVA's hometown team in 2010.
What's next: The Squirrels will be back April 7 at the new CarMax Park.
- Their first home game is against Altoona Curve.
