Richmond's canal-front paddlesports venue is now open

• The social club is opening with three indoor courts for padel, which is like a cross between tennis and squash and as easy to pick up as pickleball, co-founder Alex Nordheimer tells Axios.
• Two indoor pickleball courts will open on Monday, Feb 3.

How it works: Walk-ins are welcome, but court reservations are recommended. They can be made with the Padel Mates App. It's $60 an hour for non-peak hours $80 an hour at peak.

• Of note: That price is per a court and split by the numbers of players, which is usually four, Nordheimer says.
• Check out the Activities tab in the app for classes and beginner and intermediate clinics ($20-$35).
• And keep an eye on their social media for upcoming open plays, on-site yoga and cardio classes.

What's next: An on-site restaurant, The Plant Café, opens early next month, followed by an in-house bar after that and expanded hours.

• For now, Padel Plant is open Monday-Friday, 11am-9pm and Saturdays and Sundays, 8am-9pm.
