Michael Vick interviews for Norfolk State's head coaching job

Former NFL quarterback Michael Vick interviewed to be Norfolk State's next head football coach, the Newport News native told The Virginian-Pilot on Monday.

Why it matters: It's yet another NFL legend in talks for a college football job this month.

The big picture: The Pilot reported that officials from the HBCU, according to Vick, reached out to him first and he's expecting a decision "soon."

Norfolk State has been on the search for a new head coach in the weeks after they fired coach Dawson Odums around Thanksgiving. He had three losing seasons out of four.
And while Vick, who played for Virginia Tech, doesn't have previous head coaching experience, he told the Pilot that "I know how to lead and I know what it takes."

Catch up quick: Vick has been a Fox Sports NFL analyst since 2017, the year he retired from the NFL — where he had record-breaking seasons with the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles.

Often overshadowing his extensive resume is his 21-month stint in federal prison for being involved in an illegal dogfighting ring.
He later won "NFL Comeback Player of the Year" in 2010 after re-signing with the Eagles.
